This Privacy Policy applies to our public web pages, member account centre, mobile app, event and community features, resource library, membership checkout and billing support, and related member communications.

We handle personal information in accordance with Alberta private-sector privacy law and applicable Canadian private-sector privacy law. By using MakerHub or giving us personal information, you agree that we may collect, use, and disclose that information as described in this Policy.

  • Profile and community information that members choose to provide, including display name, brand name, craft specialties, bio, headline, location text, avatar, gallery images, links, posts, comments, reactions, bookmarks, reports, and moderation context.
  • Event, resource, and activity information, including RSVPs, waitlist status, attendance records, resource downloads, legal resource acknowledgements, notification preferences, and account deletion requests.
  • Technical and usage information, including IP address, browser and device details, app version, pages or screens viewed, diagnostics, crash or error context, cookies, analytics events, and push notification tokens.
  • Communications, including emails, forms, account help requests, billing questions, and other messages you send to us.

How We Use Information

We use personal information for reasonable MakerHub purposes and only to the extent needed for those purposes.

  • To provide the mobile app, web account centre, events, community spaces, member directory, resource library, notifications, saved files, and member support.
  • To process payments, confirm access, prevent duplicate or mistaken charges, investigate billing errors, and keep membership access aligned with payment or cancellation status.
  • To moderate community activity, review reports, protect members, enforce our Terms of Service, prevent fraud or misuse, and maintain reliable operations.
  • To send service messages, event reminders, account notices, billing notices, support replies, and marketing messages where you have agreed to receive them.
  • To understand usage, improve features, test reliability, measure launch performance, and plan future MakerHub services.
  • To meet legal, accounting, tax, security, dispute, insurance, and records obligations.

Cookies and Analytics

We may use cookies and similar technologies on our web pages. Some cookies are needed for basic functions such as sign-in, security, checkout, account access, and preferences. We may also use analytics cookies or similar tools to understand how visitors use our public pages and member surfaces.

You can manage cookies through your browser settings. If you block some cookies, parts of the site may not work as intended.

When We Share Information

We do not sell or rent personal information. We share personal information only when needed to provide MakerHub, operate safely, or meet legal obligations.

  • Service providers who help with hosting, authentication, payment processing, subscription management, email delivery, analytics, push notifications, storage, security, support, and operations.
  • Payment and app marketplace providers when needed to process purchases, renewals, cancellations, refunds, disputes, and billing recovery.
  • Professional advisors, insurers, payment networks, law enforcement, regulators, courts, or government authorities when reasonably required or permitted by law.
  • A successor organization if MakerHub is involved in a merger, financing, sale, reorganization, or transfer of business assets, subject to appropriate safeguards.

Storage, Service Providers, and Safeguards

Some service providers may process or store information outside Alberta or Canada. When that happens, information may be subject to the laws of the place where it is processed. We use contractual, technical, and operational safeguards that are reasonable for the sensitivity of the information and the services being provided.

We use reasonable safeguards such as access controls, encrypted connections, limited staff access, provider security controls, private storage for member files where appropriate, and operational monitoring. No internet service can be guaranteed completely secure, but we work to protect the information we hold.

Retention

We keep personal information only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes in this Policy, unless a longer period is required or permitted by law. Membership, billing, tax, security, dispute, audit, and account records may need to be kept after access ends. Community, event, or resource records may be retained in a limited or anonymized form where needed for integrity, safety, or legal reasons.

When information is no longer needed, we delete it, anonymize it, or retain it only in a restricted records context.

Your Choices and Rights

You may ask to access the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete, withdraw consent where consent is the basis for use, manage marketing preferences, adjust notification settings, or request account deletion.

Some choices are subject to legal, contractual, security, billing, or records limits. For example, we may need to keep certain transaction or security records even after account access ends. If withdrawing consent affects a service, we will explain the practical result where it is not obvious.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy when our practices, services, providers, or legal obligations change. The updated date at the top of this page shows when the Policy was last revised. Material changes will be communicated in a reasonable way.
